We are asking you to participate in a research study on constructive deliberation. This study is being led by Casey Elizabeth Gilbert, Public Policy PhD at Northeastern University. The Faculty Advisor for this study is Moira Zellner, School of Public Policy at Northeastern University.
What the study is aboutThe purpose of this research is to understand participants’ experiences in deliberations, as well as understand the features of discourse that enable it to be constructive and productive.
What we will ask you to do
We will ask you several questions after your deliberation to better understand your experience and your perspective. This should take no longer than 5 minutes.
Risks and discomfortsWe do not anticipate any risks from participating in this research.
Benefits
There are no direct benefits to this research, but information from this study will be used to inform facilitation of future deliberations. In addition, it will contribute understanding towards features of discourse that make it productive, and guide society in having constructive conversations about potentially contentious issues.
Privacy/Confidentiality/Data SecurityThis study is fully confidential. All data will be de-identified. No personal identifying data will be shared with the researcher. The research team will not share the data with anyone else. De-identified data will be stored password protected.
Follow up studiesWe may contact you again to request your participation in a follow up study. As always, your participation will be voluntary and we will ask for your explicit consent to participate in any of the follow up studies.
